Freaking pissed off.

Am I actually going to graduate some day?  So repeating just one quarter....somehow got elongated to repeating an entire year.  I am so sick of school.  All I want to do is get into the real world, and get a real job.  Is that so hard to ask?

I don't understand how I am going to pay for two more quarters and paying for two types of testings, that I don't even know if I even have.

Numb.

Its been two weeks since I was told that I would be delayed in my program.  I have been taken out of my student placement and would graduate a quarter late.  The pain is unbearable, I really do not understand why it is not going away.

Thoughts on election night, future of the presidency, future of the republic party etc.

Post about this in a couple of days.

Yeah I know, I'm a bit late but I have been incredibly busy.

Random thought-What is going on with Missouri?!  Its been two weeks since election night, and they still haven't figured out which candidate won that state.  Its a good thing the result was a blowout, otherwise Missouri would have been the most hated state with Florida and Ohio.

Thoughts on the Final Debate (Strictly on Education Policy)

Let's just say McCain is very lucky that Education policies hardly get covered.  Some of his plans lack common sense.  Even though only one question was asked in the third debate, I have gotten a lot of info from their responses.

In the third debate the comment from McCain really bothered me. "We need to encourage Teach for America and Troops to Teachers where people, after served in the military, can go right into teaching and not have to take any examinations which...or certification that some are required in the states."

Here is the thing.  I am all for military servicemen for teaching.  What bothers me is the second half of the quote, not having to take any examinations or getting a teaching certification.  Seriously...um what?!

The whole point of those examinations is to see whether if those high school teachers know their content and are qualified to teach.  I've talked to my fellow classmates in my program and everyone was really shocked by his comments.  Lets just compare this quote and replace it with other occupations.

"We can have people after served in the military, can go right into the medical field.  They don't have to take the mcat, pass their boards, or any other medical examiniations.  In fact they don't need to have a certification in their field either."

"We can have people be part of the Cleveland Orchestra.  In fact they don't need to audition, they just get an automatic seat in the group."

The funny thing about his statement, is that he keeps on emphasizing the point that we need to get rid of bad teachers (which I have issues with, since I know they compare Teacher's performance based on standardized test which I do not agree with).  However, based on his statement, he's just replacing these bad teachers with even likely worse ones.

Oh yeah, good luck trying to get rid of the "bad" math & science teachers.  Unless he plans to recruit more math and science teachers...there won't be any left.

Irony:

What is also ironic, is that he is for these programs such as Teach for America (I definitely support Teach for America).  What makes it so ironic, is that the Republican Party is so dismissive in supporting any "expansive program" for education.  They label democrats as people who are these wasteful spenders in education, and how there is too much government involvement in education.  Obama was called by McCain as "Throwing tons of money to schools" etc.  I am ambivalent and still undecided about the "huge governmental projects" (some are good , some can be bad), but the Republican party is not consistent in their stance on education.

The republican party's stance on education is like a cat having a convulsive seizure.  Did they forget about George Bush's No Child Left Behind?  That was the biggest education project from the government.  They also forgot about the fact that Ronald Reagen doubled the size of the department of Education.  Its not really that I oppose McCain's view on education.  The problem I have with it, is I have no idea what is his position and what is he going to do.

Vouchers:  I am also neutral on Vouchers.  My issue with vouchers, is that the Republican Party and McCain seem to believe that a voucher is some mystical medicine that will solve every single education problem.  The problem with vouchers is that while you will have some students bail out of the "bad schools", that doesn't help the school get better.

Charter Schools:  What is interesting with Obama, is that he is for Charter Schools.  People criticize him for being in line with the democratic party, but being for Charter schools is very very very against the democratic party.  Of course since no one really takes notice about the education issue, a lot of people will think the Charter School stance doesn't mean anything.  Pretty much all of the teacher organization groups (I get their magazines in the mail), are very opposed to Charter Schools (I kind of need to look up their reasoning though).

Other stuff: I am somewhat disappointed that neither candidate talked about administration problems. That is actually one of the biggest reasons for "bad urban schools" doing poorly.  Obama however seems to understand more about the dynamics of the school and education.  He actually talked about the parent's role in a child's education.

Its wierd that almost a year ago, I put Obama in the bottom half of all the democratic candidates running for president.  I also considered John McCain top 3/top 2 compared to all the other republicans.

Wierd how things have changed.

The reason I liked McCain was reading about his biography during the 1998-2002 era.  He was well respected by a lot of democrats.  He was able to pass a bipartisan alliance (gang of 14) in stopping some ridiculous bills being passed.  He was able to think outside of his party.  Too bad that the McCain that I liked in 2000, does not exist anymore.

I will say this.  John McCain has lost his soul, he has lost all of the dignity, after this past couple of weeks.

I really don't care if he's a republican or democrat.  When McCain and Palin are speaking at rallies, they have a responsibility to control their crowds.  They also have a responsibility to treat their competitors (Obama and Biden) with respect.

However, they did not.  During several rallies (including one in Strongsville Ohio) this past week, people in the crowds (very clearly) were screaming huge insults and threats to Obama.  These included "He's an Arab" "Terrorist", "Traitor", "Kill him", "Lynch him" etc.  McCain and Palin had a chance to tell these people to be respectful.  Instead, they continued to talk and let all of these character slanders continue.

McCain was so incredibly disrespectful to Obama, calling him "That one", never looking him in the eye.  He was very resistent in shaking his hand after the debate.  Although I am disappointed, I shouldn't been shocked since I watched the Republican Primary debates in January.  McCain laughed at Ron Paul completely belittling him, and made comments such as "You aren't going to win"  "We will miss you in the next debate" etc...so it doesn't come off as a surprise that he's being disrespectful to Obama.

I am upset that McCain has run the dirtiest campaign.  Its ironic that when he lost to Bush in 2000, he accused Bush of throwing him under the bus and completely smearing him.  Because right now that is what he is doing to Obama, making ads that send the message of "Obama is "the one" (code for antichrist)", "Obama does not care about Latinos (subtle message for...let's drive a bigger wedge between the black and latino community), "Obama is linked to Bill Ayers and Wright (coincidentally just this week...when McCain could easily could have addressed that a long time ago).

I find it somewhat frustrating that a huge amount of Evangelicals are supporting the republican party for "morals".  John McCain and Sarah Palin have sold out their morals and their dignity by doing the worst type of character assassination.  Palin has become the Christian Machivellian, using morals when its convenient, but sacrificing it for strategic tactics in getting to the white house.  I disappointed in John McCain, and I have lost all respect for him.
